Bioworld, a Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) for Business Cornerstone Sponsor and Impact Network member, has worked with CFT since 2015 to further its philanthropic impact. With offices around the world from New York to China to right here in North Texas, Bioworld supports the local communities it serves and operates in.
Bioworld is a leading global manufacturer of licensed apparel, accessories, and home goods. Partnering with retailers at all levels of distribution, Bioworld collaborates with creators to foster deeper connections between fans and the brands they love.
“Bioworld’s mission is to cultivate self-expression, particularly through licensing and fandom,” said Jason Mayes, senior director of marketing at Bioworld Merchandising. “We translate the brand essence onto innovative products that speak to the core fans. This helps them feel good about the fandoms they support and enables them to ultimately better represent the things they love. This is our core mission, and we live this out every day.”
Bioworld founder Raj Malik holds a longstanding passion for community. For Bioworld employees, commitment to community and volunteerism have been a part of the work culture since the very start.
“Bioworld’s DNA has always been rooted in charitable activities, and it really started with Raj, who is very grounded in giving back. Our focus has been a hands-on approach to improving educational opportunities and environments for children and young adults. We work with schools, youth centers, community leaders, and charities to enhance the lives of children in the local community.” said Mayes.
Partnering with CFT for Business, Bioworld has engaged in volunteer projects across North Texas with Foster Kids Charity, Mi Escuelita, PatriotPAWS, and Mosaic Family Services. Additionally, Bioworld regularly supports the North Texas Food Bank, Irving ISD, Children’s Medical Center, and Level Pathways through donations and gifts of time, talent and product. This includes donating more than 10,000 backpacks annually to the Irving ISD, as well as donating 10,000 capes in February 2023 for Children’s Medical Center Red Balloon League. Bioworld also provides monetary donations in excess of $100,000 annually across their partners.
“We work closely with the CFT for Business team to find meaningful ways to give back. It’s been a great partnership, and a long-term one,” said Jason Mayes. “CFT for Business is a partner we can look to for new ideas on how to grow impact and community.”
CFT for Business connects companies with resources and expertise to foster and grow cultures of good corporate citizenship. Aligning with CFT’s vision of thriving communities for all, CFT for Business recognizes that strong corporate social responsibility translates to healthier communities.
In April 2023, Bioworld joined CFT for Business in service during National Volunteer Month. Nearly 100 of Bioworld’s local employees gathered at the Dallas Zoo to improve its pollinator habitats and animal environments, and to assemble ‘Adopt-An-Animal’ packages.
A group of volunteers, shovels in hand, worked on what will become a dinosaur fossil dig for guests within the Zoo’s Destination: Dinosaur exhibit.
“Bioworld has been in the Dallas area for over 20 years, and it’s important for us to be a part of the community,” said Raj. “All of our employees want to do something good, and CFT has been a partner in helping us understand the needs of local nonprofits and make connections.”
On the other side of the Zoo, a group of Bioworld volunteers helped restore the zoo’s monarch butterfly habitat, by weeding and laying down mulch so the designated space could host butterflies during the annual monarch butterfly migration.
“We’ve never had a volunteer event this big, so we were very excited to bring our people together here.” said Shelly Reid, executive assistant at Bioworld. “We just love to give back and this passion extends from Raj.”
Bioworld views its National Volunteer Month project with the Dallas Zoo as not only a way to give back, but also an opportunity to grow as a team, and to spend quality time together, especially following the pandemic.
Looking to the future, Bioworld is proud to serve as a founding Cornerstone Sponsor of CFT for Business and to continue its collaborative partnership together, which helps elevate its giving and volunteerism strategies.
