It's National Pet Month, and we're thrilled to highlight our latest human-animal connection grantees. In April of 2022, Communities Foundation of Texas awarded $418,500 to nonprofits working to better the lives of animals and North Texas residents alike!

Communities Foundation of Texas celebrates National Volunteer Month, activating 2,300 volunteers to #DoTheGood in our community during April 2022

CFT for Business engaged over 400 volunteers from 39 member companies through curated volunteer opportunities


Communities Foundation of Texas engaged the community in service during National Volunteer Month 2022. The community-wide effort to #DoTheGood invited businesses, community leaders, nonprofits, individuals, and families to share their time and talent with organizations in need across North Texas.  

In total, 2,300 volunteers gave 11,000 volunteer hours to projects featured by CFT through VOMO.

Communities Foundation of Texas is thrilled to announce that John Bergner has been selected as CFT’s 2022 Vester Hughes Award honoree. CFT is also hosting its annual professional seminar in partnership with Southern Methodist University on the morning of Tuesday, May 10.

Educate Texas Welcomes Dr. Joe May as Chancellor in Residence

Educate Texas, an initiative of Communities Foundation of Texas, announces the naming of Joe May, former Chancellor of Dallas College, to advance its 2025 Strategic Plan


CFT’s Educate Texas is honored to announce Dr. Joe May as Chancellor in Residence. In his role, Dr. May will forge new relationships with key stakeholders in higher education across the state and nation to enhance the programmatic portfolio of Educate Texas. He will also bring forward new initiatives centered on leadership development and policy innovation. 

March 2022 Tornadoes

Funds that have been established to support the efforts of first responders, as well as support for impacted communities with response and recovery


On March 21st, 2022, a strong line of storms that spun off high winds and tornadoes moved across Central and North Texas, causing severe damage across multiple communities and counties. The state of Texas has declared 16 counties as disasters, including Bastrop, Cass, Cooke, Grayson, Guadalupe, Houston, Jack, Madison, Marion, Montague, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk, Upshur, Williamson, and Wise counties. In addition to property damage to homes and schools in multiple communities, the storm has also caused multiple injuries and to date, at least one death that can be attributed to the storm.

Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) has welcomed Jim Berry as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. CFT is also extending deep appreciation to Beth Bull, who has retired after 14 years as a member of the CFT executive leadership team.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces. Since the start of the conflict, over 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees have continued to flee to neighboring countries, while the citizens still within Ukraine remain caught in the middle of escalating Russian attacks. According to the UNHCR, the UN’s agency that oversees refugees, the world is witnessing “the fastest growing refugee crisis since World War II.” Since the start of this conflict, local, national, and international nonprofits, governments, and businesses are stepping in to offer support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
