Celebrating National Community Foundation Week 2022

November 12, 2022

Community Foundations: Here for good. Here to help you help others.

Community foundations are uniquely situated to improve their regions by supporting donors who want to make a difference in funding the organizations who make the place we call home better for our neighbors. We do this through strategic giving, supporting innovative solutions, and convening funders and partners focused on impact.

Community Foundation Week, celebrated nationally November 12 - 18, was created in 1989 by former President George H.W. Bush, in recognition of the important work of the 750+ community foundations throughout America and their collaborative and innovative approach to working with the public, private, and nonprofit sector to address community needs. Annually, Community Foundation Week coincides with National Philanthropy Day on November 15.

Locally, Communities Foundation of Texas and The Dallas Foundation are the two community foundations which, combined, have served North Texas for almost 170 years. Even if you have not heard of either organization, you’ve likely been touched by our work to grow giving, invest in a brighter tomorrow, and strengthen the places we call home. Our recent collaborative efforts include North Texas Giving Day, North Texas Cares, Big D Reads, and the Linz Award, among others. Collectively, our organizations have granted over $3 billion since we were founded.

In September, more than $62 million was raised in an outpouring of support for 3,000+ nonprofits through North Texas Giving Day. Still, the needs related to physical and mental health, economic security and mobility, public safety, and educating our children from birth to college or credential, remain great and evident across our community.

As the traditional giving season approaches, we ask you to consider your commitment to our community, how you can best support others, and make the most impact. We are here to connect you to the causes you care about and invite you to consider us trusted partners who can help maximize your charitable investments.

We thank you for supporting the needs of our neighbors and the nonprofits and foundations working to help them. We’ve experienced firsthand how much stronger and resilient we are when we come together. It will take each of us to build the thriving community we know is possible.

With gratitude,
