The Movie Institute

  • The Movie Institute is dedicated to the training of life and leadership skills in young people through the creativity and discipline of the motion media arts and sciences. The Movie Institute has developed an effective and unique method of using the creativity and discipline of the motion media arts and sciences to mentor and train vital life and leadership skills in young people so that they can create purpose-driven and successful lives.

If you are interested in serving on this board, please contact Keith Duncan at keith@movieinstitute.org

  • The Movie Institute is looking for ten board members who are willing to serve on committees to support community awareness, social media, fundraising, and special events. The board is diverse, and The Movie Institute appreciates people with specialized skills that can help a committee or industry skills that can benefit their constituency (film industry skills, connections, etc.). They also appreciate parents or alumni of Movie Institute programs who are interested in serving on the board.

    Additional board requirements include:

    – Donations totaling at least $1,000 per year (direct or through solicited/sponsored donations from others throughout each year)

    – D&O insurance (around $60 – $70 per year)

    – Attend the red carpet screening for Kamp Hollywood each summer

    – Visit other Movie Institute programs events, workshops, or sessions from time to time

    – Participate in donor events such as galas, open houses, and other activities to show support; help circulate invitations among your network to broaden awareness of MI through these events

The board has a mandatory meeting annually on the 2nd Saturday in November and optional quarterly meetings. Committees meet monthly or every other month (in-person or via Zoom).

  • The driver for expanding their board is a planned expansion that is helping The Movie Institute grow their reach. Previously, they’ve supported hundreds of kids each year through programs that were coordinated through community partners. They are opening a movie studio for kids – MI North Studio – at the Shops at Willow Bend in June. This will enable them to support more than 3,000 kids per year.
