Lindsay Lloyd North Korea Freedom Scholarship
The Lindsay Lloyd North Korea Freedom Scholarship (supported by the George W. Bush Foundation) provides one or more annual scholarships for up to $10,000 to lawful permanent residents of the United States, U.S. citizens or refugees who were born in North Korea pursuing an educational program in the United States or its possessions. North Korean-born individuals pursuing a degree in accredited colleges and universities in the United States with South Korean citizenship are eligible to apply.
Deadline: April 1, 2024 -
- Applicants must demonstrate legal status as lawful permanent residents of the United States, U.S. citizenship, or refugee status.
- Birth in North Korea or be immediate family members of someone who was born in North Korea prior to legal immigration to the United States.
- North Korean-born individuals pursuing a degree in accredited colleges and universities in the United States with South Korean citizenship are eligible to apply.

Selection criteria includes community participation, letters of recommendation, essay response, and financial need. Applicants are encouraged to submit at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher or academic mentor. While at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher or academic mentor is preferred, letters of recommendation may come from a coaches, employers, mentors, etc.
Note: This scholarship may be renewed on an annual basis by completing the scholarship application in full. Renewal applications will be reviewed alongside first-time applicants.
