Know Yourself, Know Your Giving

CFT is here to help you choose charities that align with your passions

With so many amazing causes requesting donations, how are you supposed to choose? When saying yes to one means saying no to so many others, how are you supposed to decide? When you know what matters most to you, it’s easier to know which causes you want to support.

While it may not seem like all of these questions are relevant to your charitable giving style, being able to answer them will help better define what’s important to you. And that’s the first step in identifying what you want your charitable legacy to be.

  1. Who matters most to me
  2. What am I worried about?
  3. What do I like to do for fun?
  4. What are my values? What do I believe in?
  5. What or who gives me comfort?
  6. What is my proudest accomplishment?
  7. What are my short-term and long-term goals?
  8. What am I passionate about?
  9. What is my happiest memory?
  10. What am I grateful for?

While philanthropy is often a deeply personal act, creating your charitable legacy shouldn’t be a solo activity. Include your family and close friends in conversations about you giving and talk to your financial planner to include charitable giving in your financial plan.

At Communities Foundation of Texas, our job is to help you define and realize your charitable giving goals. We have experienced staff who will sit down with you to help connect your giving goals with the most meaningful, impactful giving strategies – whether it is planning for one gift or for a lifetime of giving. Call 914-750-4234 or email to let us know how we can assist you in 2017.
