The children who complete the Believe and Achieve program offered through Trinity River Mission (TRM) receive more than the enhanced self-esteem that comes from academic success. “The high school seniors are pretty much guaranteed a $4,000 scholarship to college,” said Dolores Sosa Green, executive director, referring to the $500-per-semester scholarship that is funded and administered through CFT. The organization relies on CFT to manage its Believe and Achieve scholarship fund and get the best return for its agency funds so that TRM can focus on its strength: connecting tutors and mentors with children. “We’re a small organization and better with educational services than financial expertise,” Sosa said. “Without CFT, we would have to hire someone to manage our funds. We would rather direct that money to the kids we serve.”
